Ranchi: The student protest in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations has intensified, with protesters now directly targeting the Hemant Soren-led government.

Students have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and urged the Congress to withdraw its support from the ruling alliance. The protesters have accused the government of failing to adequately address their concerns over alleged irregularities in examinations conducted for government recruitment.

🟡 Protest Escalates Across the State

The agitation, led by students demanding action over alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), has continued to gain momentum.

The protesters are seeking cancellation of examinations they allege were compromised, along with an independent and transparent investigation into the complaints.

The issue has now moved beyond an examination-related protest, with students openly challenging the state government and demanding political accountability.

🟡 Effigies of Soren and Rahul Gandhi to Be Burnt

The protesters have announced that they will burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, August 16.

The move is being projected by the protesters as a demonstration of their anger against both the state government and its political ally, Congress.

🟡 CM Residence Gherao Announced for August 20

The students have also announced a major escalation on August 20, when they plan to gherao Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence in Ranchi.

The announcement has raised the possibility of heightened political and administrative tensions in the state if the protesters proceed with the programme.

🟡 Government Under Pressure

The Soren government has faced increasing pressure over the examination controversy. The Chief Minister has previously spoken about ensuring transparency in the recruitment process and taking steps to address concerns raised by candidates.

However, the protesters say assurances are not enough and are demanding concrete action, including accountability for those allegedly responsible for irregularities.

🟡 From Exam Row to Political Confrontation

What began as a student movement over recruitment examinations is increasingly turning into a broader political confrontation.

With demands now including Hemant Soren’s resignation and withdrawal of Congress support, the August 20 gherao could become a crucial moment in the ongoing agitation.

🟡 Pressure Builds Ahead

The focus will now be on whether the Jharkhand government opens fresh talks with the protesting students and takes further action on their demands. The administration will also have to prepare for the proposed August 20 demonstration and maintain law and order around the Chief Minister’s residence.
