🟡 What Happened ?

A political controversy has erupted in Bankura, West Bengal, after the father of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) volunteer Shaik Abdul Hafeez died following an alleged assault at the family home.

According to reports, Hafeez had visited Karisunda West Para Primary School on August 13 as part of CJP’s “School Thik Karo” campaign, which focuses on documenting infrastructure problems in government schools.

Later that evening, Hafeez and his father, Janab Sheikh Mohammad Mafik, were allegedly attacked at their home. Hafeez reportedly sustained injuries, while his father suffered serious head injuries.

Mafik was taken to hospital but died on August 15, according to reports.

🟡 CJP Alleges Political Attack

The CJP has alleged that local BJP workers were involved in the attack and has demanded strict action against those responsible.

CJP founder and national convener Abhijeet Dipke has said that the party will support Hafeez and his family legally and that a delegation will visit them.

🟡 BJP Rejects Organisational Link

The BJP has denied that the incident was connected to the party. West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said there was no BJP organisational connection to the incident and maintained that anyone responsible should face legal action.

The allegations remain under investigation, and responsibility for the attack has not been established by a court.

🟡 Police Action

Police have arrested eight people in connection with the incident. Reports indicate that three of those arrested were named in the family’s complaint.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault, the motive and whether there was any political connection.

🟡 Why It Matters

The incident has intensified the political debate around CJP’s “School Thik Karo” campaign and raised questions about the safety of activists and volunteers documenting public infrastructure.

With the CJP alleging a politically motivated attack and the BJP denying organisational involvement, the police investigation will be central to determining what happened.

🟡 What Happens Next?

The immediate focus will be on the police investigation, the questioning of the arrested suspects and any further evidence establishing the motive behind the attack. CJP has also indicated that it will provide legal support to Hafeez’s family.
