Mumbai: BMC had recently directed bakery’s, eateries and restaurants to stop using wood or charcoal as it’s causing pollution in the city but some people are asking for time extension and adhere to this move while some leaders have expressed their opinion in regards to price change after this move taken by BMC.
On the growing concerns and making changes from charcoal and wood to CNG and PNG fuels.
Nasir Khan, Bombay Baker’s Association president said, “According to me, Government should give us time for making these changes into different mode because we are struggling for the funds as of now and notices which we have received states to make changes within six months which is quite less. Also we are requesting government to fulfill our demands of extending duration which was given to us and some fund management or schemes which can help us to make these new changes”.
Over this issue Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh has written a letter to BMC administrator regarding concerns after the step been taken over bakeries.
“A formal hearing should be arranged to allow them to present their grievances and concerns, especially with regard to the proposed ban on the use of wood and charcoal for baking purposes, at the earliest. A collaborative discussion between the concerned authorities and the affected businesses will provide an opportunity to identify practical and sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and the livelihoods of the city’s traditional food industry,” said Rais Shaikh, MLA.
Shaikh further said that the ban on the use of wood and charcoal will increase the prices of Pav used with Vada Pav, Misal Pav, and other food items. “The disruption in supply of Pav would led increasing the prices of Pav. The current price of Pav from Rs 3 will go to Rs 5 in future. It will also impact the prices of Vada Pav, Misal Pav along with other food items,” added Shaikh.
