‘Ru’ Symbol Controversy: Stalin Accuses Centre of Ignoring Tamil Nadu’s Pleas for Funds

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has clarified the reasoning behind replacing ‘Rs’ with ‘Ru’ in the state’s budget. The move sparked controversy, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accusing the Stalin government of promoting “secessionist sentiment.”
Stalin explained that the change was made to demonstrate the DMK’s commitment to the Tamil language. He alleged that the Central government has been attempting to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu through the National Education Policy (NEP).
Stalin criticized Sitharaman for responding to the symbol issue while ignoring the state’s pleas for funds. He pointed out that Sitharaman had previously used the term ‘Ru’ herself.
The Tamil Nadu government’s decision to replace the rupee symbol with ‘Ru’ has ignited a heated debate. Stalin has warned the Centre against imposing Hindi on the state, threatening to launch a language war if necessary. He also accused the Centre of plotting to reduce Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha seats through delimitation.
