Mumbai: Accordingly Severe weather conditions and red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools in Mumbai, effective tomorrow, August 19, 2025. This decision applies to both morning and afternoon sessions, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students.

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs, leading to a red alert being issued for several areas, including Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Mulund, Powai, Santa Cruz, Chembur, Worli, Navi Mumbai, and Colaba. The BMC has taken this precautionary measure to ensure that students are not put in harm’s way due to the adverse weather conditions.

The BMC has advised citizens to stay indoors and avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary. Residents are also urged to follow guidelines issued by local authorities and contact emergency services (100/112/103) in case of emergencies. The BMC is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

The heavy rainfall and red alert are expected to cause disruptions to daily life, including traffic congestion and potential flash flooding. The BMC has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the severe weather conditions and ensure public safety.

Parents and students are advised to stay informed through official channels, including the BMC’s website and social media handles, for updates on the situation. The BMC will provide regular updates and instructions to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.

By taking this precautionary measure, the BMC aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and residents, while also minimizing disruptions to daily life.
