Dhule, Maharashtra: In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the village of Kurkhali and the entire taluka, 40-year-old farmer Yuvraj Kashinath Koli took his own life after heavy rains devastated his cotton crop. Overwhelmed by despair, he consumed poisonous chemicals meant for crop spraying, ending his life right in his fields.
The relentless rains over the past two days had completely submerged his cotton fields. The flowers and fruits were lost, leaving no hope for this year’s yield. With mounting debts and the pressure of providing for his family, including arranging his daughters’ marriages, Yuvraj found himself trapped in an unbearable situation.
This marks the second farmer suicide in just six days in Shirpur taluka. Earlier, a young indebted farmer from Bhatpura also ended his life by hanging, highlighting the grave mental health crisis among farmers in the region.
While the government has promised crop insurance and financial assistance, delays in relief have left many farmers in despair rather than support. The community in Kurkhali is mourning the loss of Yuvraj Koli and is urging the authorities to provide immediate financial aid to his bereaved family to help them cope with this tragedy.
