🟡 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Devastates Colombia

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, 2026, causing widespread destruction and panic. The epicenter was located near the Chocó region, and the tremors were felt across major cities including Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín. Due to its intensity, the quake is being considered one of the most severe seismic events in Colombia in recent years.

🟡 47 Deaths Confirmed, Toll May Rise

Authorities have officially confirmed 47 deaths so far, with fears that the toll could increase as rescue operations continue. Dozens of people have been injured, and several are still reported missing. Emergency teams are racing against time to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed structures in multiple affected regions.

🟡 Widespread Destruction in Major Cities

Cities such as Pereira, Cali, Manizales, and Buenaventura have reported significant damage. In Cali, numerous residential and commercial buildings collapsed, leaving many trapped under debris. Roads have cracked, power lines have been disrupted, and essential services have been affected, making rescue operations more difficult.

🟡 Rescue Operations Intensified Across Affected Areas

National disaster response teams, along with local authorities, have been deployed on a large scale. Rescue workers are conducting search-and-rescue operations in the most severely hit zones. Temporary shelters have been established for displaced residents, while hospitals are handling a surge of injured victims. Officials have also warned of possible aftershocks, urging citizens to remain alert.

🟡 Regional Impact Raises Further Concerns

The impact of the earthquake extended beyond Colombia, with tremors felt in neighboring countries like Ecuador and Venezuela. Several airports were temporarily shut, and transportation services faced disruptions. Experts warn that aftershocks may continue in the coming days, posing additional risks and challenges for ongoing rescue efforts and recovery operations.
