Mumbai (Maharashtra) – A value-based education and social upliftment, Flora Foundation and Muskan Sanstha have jointly established a Gurukul-style boarding school in Mira Road, marking the beginning of a larger mission to set up similar institutions across India. The initiative draws inspiration from Jain spiritual leader Shri Jin Ratna vijayji and aims to provide holistic development opportunities to children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
The newly constructed two-storey Gurukul Boarding School has been developed with the generous support of donors and is equipped to accommodate around 100 children. The institution offers not only formal education but also residential facilities and nutritious meals, ensuring a complete nurturing environment for its students.
The Gurukul was formally inaugurated in a grand ceremony attended by hundreds of people. The event was graced by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and local MLA Narendra Mehta, who lauded the initiative and its vision for nation-building through education and values.
During the inauguration ceremony, the organizers made an important announcement regarding the financial aspect of the project. They revealed that the annual cost of education and upbringing for a single child in the Gurukul would be approximately ₹2,07,000. In a heartening response, several donors present at the event stepped forward immediately and pledged to sponsor the entire expenses for the first year, reflecting strong community support and trust in the initiative.
According to Flora Foundation Chairman Trustee Shri Babubhai Bhavanji and Muskan Sanstha Managing Trustee Shri Bharat Nagda Jain, the long-term vision of this project goes beyond conventional education. The organizations aim to establish Gurukul schools alongside temples across the country, creating centers that combine spirituality, education, and character-building.
The Gurukul model focuses on imparting not just academic knowledge but also essential life values. Children enrolled in the institution will receive training in moral and cultural values, humanity, patriotism, and service. Additionally, the curriculum includes skill development programs, self-employment training, and self-defense techniques to empower students for future challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, former Deputy Mayor Babubhai Bhavanji emphasized that the Jain and Hindu communities are now united in their resolve to expand this concept nationwide. He stated that such Gurukuls will serve as centers for holistic development, where children will be educated in scriptures, trained in martial arts, and equipped with practical skills, while also promoting initiatives like cow shelters and community service.
The launch of this Gurukul in Mira Road is being seen as a promising beginning of a larger movement aimed at reshaping education by blending traditional values with modern needs, offering hope and opportunity to countless children across India.
