Ranchi | Jharkhand remains at the centre of a major political and student confrontation as the agitation over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations continues in Ranchi. The issue has now moved beyond an examination controversy, with the Hemant Soren government facing sustained pressure from protesting aspirants as well as the Opposition BJP.

Hemant Soren Cancels 14th JPSC Examination

In a significant development, Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination in the Jharkhand Assembly. According to reports, two other JPSC examinations will also be cancelled, while the government has ordered an investigation into examinations conducted by TDPL.

The decision comes after days of protests by students demanding corrective action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.

🟡 Students Continue Their Agitation

Despite the government’s announcement, protesting students have indicated that their movement will continue until their broader demands are addressed. Students have been demanding transparency in the recruitment process and action over alleged irregularities. Reports from Ranchi say students recently organised a silent march from Jaipal Stadium towards Albert Chowk.

The agitation has also witnessed clashes between protesters and the administration, with reports of police action during attempts to march towards the Assembly.

🟡 BJP Steps Up Attack on Soren Government

The controversy has triggered a sharp political battle in Jharkhand. BJP leaders have accused the Hemant Soren government of mishandling the students’ agitation and have demanded a CBI probe into the alleged examination irregularities.

Jharkhand Assembly Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi and several BJP leaders were detained during a protest outside Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence. The BJP has also accused the government of using force against protesting students.

The BJP had called for a Jharkhand bandh on August 11 in support of the protesting students, intensifying pressure on the state government.

🟡 Hemant Soren Hits Back at BJP

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has countered the Opposition’s allegations, accusing the BJP of attempting to give a political colour to the student movement and misleading young people for political gain. The Chief Minister has maintained that his government is serious about the concerns of students and is taking steps to address them.

Soren has also said that the government is ready for dialogue with the protesting students and has maintained that efforts are being made to resolve their grievances.

🟡 Rahul Gandhi and Congress Enter the Political Debate

The Jharkhand student issue has also reached the national political arena. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has expressed support for the protesting students and criticised police action against demonstrators. Reports say Gandhi also reached out to students amid the ongoing controversy.

BJP leaders, meanwhile, have accused Gandhi and the Congress of adopting double standards over student protests. The BJP has questioned the Congress’s position while it remains part of the ruling alliance in Jharkhand.

🟡 Assembly Session Ends Amid Uproar

The political confrontation intensified inside the Jharkhand Assembly as the Monsoon Session was adjourned sine die a day ahead of schedule amid an uproar over the JPSC-JSSC controversy and alleged action against protesting students.

The latest developments indicate that the examination controversy is no longer limited to recruitment reforms. It has become a major political confrontation between the ruling JMM-led alliance and the BJP Opposition, while students continue to press for accountability and transparency.

🟡 Latest Situation

Government: Has announced cancellation of the 14th JPSC exam and additional examinations, besides investigations into certain recruitment tests.

Students: Continue their agitation and are demanding wider action on alleged irregularities.

BJP: Demanding accountability and a CBI probe while attacking the Soren government.

JMM Government: Says it is addressing students’ concerns and accuses the BJP of politicising the agitation.

Congress: Has backed the protesting students, while BJP leaders are questioning the party’s role in the ruling alliance.

The Jharkhand student protest has therefore emerged as one of the state’s biggest political flashpoints in recent weeks.
