Karnataka Bandh: Statewide Shutdown Hits Normal Life
By: PR Network
Bangalore: Karnataka is witnessing a statewide bandh today, March 22, 2025, with pro-Kannada organizations calling for a 12-hour shutdown from 6 AM to 6 PM. The bandh is primarily in response to a recent attack on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus conductor, who was assaulted and hospitalized with serious injuries over a language issue.
Key Impacts of the Bandh
Public Transport Disruptions: BMTC and KSRTC bus services may be disrupted, and private taxis and autos may also be impacted.
Educational Institutions Closed: Some schools and colleges have announced a precautionary holiday.
Shops and Businesses Shut: Markets, shopping centers, and local stores in key areas may remain closed.
– _Essential Services Available_: Hospitals, pharmacies, fuel stations, and some supermarkets will remain open.
Reasons Behind the Bandh
The bandh has been called to protest against the recent attack on the KSRTC bus conductor and to demand strict action against those responsible for violence against Kannadigas. The protest is also demanding a ban on Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti for anti-Kannada activities and harassing Kannadigas.
Government Response
The Karnataka government has stated that it will not encourage the bandh and will hold talks with pro-Kannada organizations. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the bandh is not needed at this time and will affect students.
Precautions and Alternatives
To avoid disruptions, residents are advised to plan their day accordingly. Essential services will remain open, and metro services will operate normally. However, private cabs, including Ola and Uber, and autorickshaws will not operate today.
