By: Arvind Jadhav

Mumbai : In a significant operation, Mumbai Police Zone 6 has arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the Rafiq Nagar slum under Shivaji nagar police station area. The arrests are part of a broader campaign against illegal immigration in the city.

Deception and Illegal Activities

The arrested individuals, who had been living in India for five years, had allegedly changed their names and gender to evade detection. They were found to be involved in various illegal activities, including prostitution and criminal behavior. Furthermore, sources indicate that these individuals were working on development projects in Mumbai using fake documents.

Ongoing Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

The arrests are the latest in a series of crackdowns on illegal immigration in Mumbai. Between January and December 2024, Mumbai Police arrested 299 Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the city. The police are facing challenges in tracking down Bangladeshi nationals who have been living in India for generations.

Recent Incidents

Earlier this year, a Bangladeshi national was arrested for stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in a botched robbery in Bandra. The incident highlights the need for continued vigilance and action against illegal immigration.

Police Action

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 6, Navnath Dhawale, formed a special team to investigate and arrest the illegal Bangladeshi nationals. The police used a network of informants to identify the suspects and conducted a surprise raid to apprehend them.Mumbai Police’s crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi nationals is a significant step towards maintaining law and order in the city. The police will continue to face challenges in tracking down and deporting illegal immigrants, but their efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
