PM Modi in Uttarakhand: On-ground review of flood disaster and relief operations.

Dehradun : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Uttarakhand today to assess the scale of devastation caused by incessant monsoon rains, floods, landslides, and cloudbursts across the hill state.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will arrive in Dehradun this evening and immediately proceed for an aerial survey of disaster-affected areas. The survey is expected around 4:15 PM, covering the worst-hit districts, where heavy rainfall has triggered widespread damage to infrastructure, homes, and farmlands.

Following the aerial assessment, the Prime Minister will chair a high-level review meeting at 5:00 PM with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, senior state ministers, and central government officials. The meeting will focus on ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures, restoration of roads and power supply, and long-term disaster management strategies.

Uttarakhand has witnessed one of the most severe monsoon seasons in recent years. Official estimates suggest losses of over ₹5,000 crore, with at least 80 people dead and dozens missing in rain-related incidents. Thousands have been displaced, while critical infrastructure, including highways, bridges, and schools, has suffered extensive damage.

The state government has deployed disaster response teams and is coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army for rescue operations. Relief camps have been set up in multiple districts to provide shelter, food, and medical care to affected families.

Modi’s visit is being seen as crucial to boost confidence among the people of Uttarakhand and expedite central assistance. His aerial survey and direct assessment are expected to guide the allocation of relief funds and shape long-term mitigation policie
