New Delhi : The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a fresh protest at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on October 16, calling on supporters to gather with the national flag. Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has appealed to people who take pride in the Tricolour to participate in the programme scheduled for 5 PM on Friday. The announcement comes amid tensions following the detention and subsequent judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka over their protest at Jantar Mantar, which is no longer designated as an official protest site. The developments have intensified the party’s criticism of the police action and renewed its campaign for the right to demonstrate.
🟡 ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’: CJP’s New Protest Call
Dipke has described the proposed gathering as a demonstration of national pride and freedom of expression. Under the slogan “Lehra Do Tiranga” (Let the Tricolour Fly), he has urged supporters to assemble at Central Park with the national flag, arguing that waving the Tricolour should not be treated as a crime. The CJP founder has also appealed to people who cannot travel to Delhi to organise Tricolour marches in their respective cities. The announcement signals the party’s intention to continue its protest campaign despite the legal action against some of its members.
🟡 Jantar Mantar Episode Triggers Fresh Tensions
The latest announcement follows the arrest of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after they allegedly entered the Jantar Mantar area without permission and raised slogans during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Both leaders were subsequently sent to five days of judicial custody and lodged in Tihar Jail, according to media reports. Their associate Ajinkya Shinde was released after being directed to maintain peace and good behaviour. The developments have placed renewed attention on the restrictions governing public demonstrations in the national capital and the balance between maintaining public order and protecting the right to peaceful protest.
🟡 Political Dispute and Freedom of Expression
The CJP has been campaigning against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and demanding his resignation amid allegations concerning voter-list revisions. The Election Commission has faced criticism from opposition parties over the process, while the allegations of wrongdoing remain disputed. The October 16 gathering is expected to draw attention to the party’s concerns over protest restrictions, police action and the display of the national flag. The authorities’ response and the conduct of the proposed gathering will be important factors in determining how the demonstration unfolds.
