A Review Meeting on MMR’s Stuck Water Projects

Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis has instructed officials to set a timeline for completing stalled water projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This directive was issued during a review meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House, where Fadanvis emphasized the need to supply adequate water to meet the government’s per capita water ratio, especially considering Mumbai’s growing population. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Chief Secretary Sujata Sounik alongwith other top officials of related departments were present at the meeting.
CM Devendra Fadanvis has directed the immediate commencement of construction on the Shai and Susari water projects, aimed at enhancing Mumbai’s water supply. Fadanvis emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution plan to implement effective water management, catering to the city’s growing needs. For facilitate this, Fadanvis instructed responsible departments to expedite permissions from forest land, land acquisition, MMRDA, and CIDCO authorities, which have been hindering water projects. This move aims to accelerate project completion, ensuring timely improvement of Mumbai’s water supply.
CM Devendra Fadanvis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde yesterday conducted a review meeting with Water Resources Department, and CIDCO Authority to discuss the technical reasons behind the delays. CM Fadanvis has now directed that the technical difficulties be resolved and the projects be completed within the next three years. This move aims to ensure a steady water supply to Mumbai’s growing population. The projects in question are vital for the city’s development, and resolving these issues will have a significant impact on the region’s sustainability.
