By: Arvind Jadhav
Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis addressed the recent Nagpur riots in a press conference, commending the police for their efforts in controlling the situation. He attributed the violence to false social media rumors about the burning of a sacred ‘chadar’. Fadanavis emphasized that the situation is under control and assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the riots.
Recovery of Damages and Consequences for Rioters
CM Fadanavis announced that the cost of damages caused during the riots will be recovered from the rioters themselves. If they fail to pay compensation, their properties will be sold. This move aims to hold the rioters accountable for their actions and serve as a deterrent for future incidents.
Crackdown on Social Media Incitement
The Chief Minister warned that those who incited violence through social media will be treated as co-accused in the case. More than 68 inflammatory social media posts related to the riots have been flagged and deleted. This move highlights the government’s efforts to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent further violence.
Arrests and Gradual Easing of Curfew
Fadanavis revealed that 92 accused have been arrested in connection with the riots. The curfew imposed in the affected areas will be gradually eased, restoring normalcy to the region. The government’s swift action and assurances aim to rebuild trust and stability in the community.
