Mumbai : Locals are finding it difficult to make changes completely to an environmentally friendly idol, as they are finding this quite expensive, and the government should make some management in regard to the use of pop idols.
This issue comes up after the directions have been given by the BMC ( Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), where they have recently mentioned that all idols should be environmentally friendly and the use of POP should be banned, but some mandals who are into making idols mention that the government should come up with some management in regards to plaster of Paris (POP) idols as the cost for converting every one into a natural clay becomes very expensive. Over this issue,
A local sculptor, Ajit Ghadi, said, The government should come up with some management in regards to idols that are made out of pop because the cost becomes expensive, which means 3 pop idols are equal to 1 natural clay idol. This cost will impact the making and selling of the idols.”.
Another local sculptor, Nana Thakur, said, “According to me, it is expensive to make all the idols of ‘shadu Mati’ (natural clay) used for making the idols, but it is also important to maintain the environment. So people will be habituated by the move taken by the BMC slowly, but the government should allow the use of POP for making huge idols.”.
