Revised rashtriya Gokul Mission to enhance the living standards of farmers

New Delhi : The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the revised Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) to strengthen India’s livestock sector. This move aims to boost milk production and productivity, ultimately increasing farmers’ incomes.
Key Highlights of the Revised RGM:
Additional Outlay : The revised RGM will receive an additional outlay of Rs.1000 crore, totaling Rs.3400 crore during the 15th Finance Commission cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
New Activities : Two new activities have been added, including one-time assistance for establishing Heifer Rearing Centres and 3% interest subvention on loans for purchasing High Genetic Merit (HGM) IVF heifers.
Focus on Indigenous Breeds : The revised RGM aims to protect and preserve India’s indigenous bovine breeds through systematic and scientific efforts.
The implementation of the revised RGM is expected to significantly boost milk production and productivity, ultimately increasing farmers’ incomes. The scheme will also improve the livelihoods of 8.5 crore farmers engaged in dairying.
The revised RGM has been approved for the 15th Finance Commission cycle, with increased funds for the financial years 2025 and 2026. The scheme is implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, with the objective of enhancing milk production and productivity of bovines.
Objectives of the Revised RGM:
Enhance Productivity: To enhance the productivity of bovines and increase milk production in a sustainable manner using advanced technologies.
Promote Indigenous Breeds: To promote indigenous cattle and buffalo rearing and conservation in a scientific and holistic manner.
Improve Artificial Insemination Coverage: To enhance artificial insemination coverage through strengthening breeding networks and delivery of artificial insemination services at farmers’ doorsteps.
